  40.      Hello, welcome to Alien97!
  41.  
  42.      This is a copy of a freeware desktop theme package for WindowsNT
  43.      or Windows95 with MS-Plus!  The theme commemorates the 1979 movie
  44.      "ALIEN", a truly superb example of the sci-fi horror film genre.
  45.      (You can read the text file "Alien97 Short Essays" if you're
  46.      literately inclined).

  48.      Please take a minute to review the system requirements and
  49.      super-easy installation.

  60.      2) System Requirements

  62.      * WindowsNT or Windows95 32-bit OS
  63.  
  64.      * Microsoft MS-Plus! add-on enhancement
  65.          (please note: Alien97 uses a TrueType font, "OCR-A-Extended",
  66.          which is native to MS-Plus!)
  67.  
  68.      * Video card capable of at least "Hi-color resolution".  A 
  69.          256-color card is also acceptable though not optimal.  
  70.          Please don't try using this theme with only 16 colors.
  71.  
  72.      * Sound card with at least 16-bit audio wave resolution and 
  73.          ADPCM & CCITT A/mu-law compression capabilities.

  80.      a. Installing With MS-PLUS!
  81.      ---------------------------
  82.      Installing your desktop theme is easy.  Just run the Alien97 
  83.      Setup.exe program and your theme files will be automatically 
  84.      extracted into the standard MS-Plus! themes folder:

  86.                      C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\
  87.  
  88.      A complete list of all the Alien97 component files is found in
  89.      the enclosed "Alien97 Inventory.txt" file.  Afterwards, go into
  90.      the MS-Plus! *Desktop Themes* icon in your system's control 
  91.      panel and choose the "Alien97 (high color)" theme.

  93.      Voila!  You're done!

  97.      b. Adding the Screen Saver
  98.      --------------------------
  99.      Alien97 comes with a special edition of Matthias Huebner's
  100.      "StarFlight" animated screen saver. To install StarFlight, go
  101.      into the Alien97 installation folder and run the batch file
  102.      labeled "Alien97 Screen Saver Install". This batch file will
  103.      copy the necessary files into the proper Windows folders. Then 
  104.      go into your system's control panel and click on the *Display*
  105.      icon; under the "Screen Saver" tab, choose the "StarFlight 
  106.      Alien97 Edition" option.
  107.  
  108.      As an added convenience, you can easily remove the screen saver
  109.      from your Windows folder by RE-running the "Alien97 Screen Saver
  110.      Install" batch file.

  113.      the "Alien97 Troubleshooting.txt" text file.  You can also reach

  120.      c. Converting Your Logo Screens
  121.      ---------------------------------
  122.      Alien97 comes with three optional logo screens to replace the
  123.      standard Windows95 start/end screens. Just go into the Alien97
  124.      installation folder and run the batch labeled "Alien97 Logo 
  125.      Install". Your Alien97 logo files should be installed within
  126.      seconds!

  128.      You won't lose your original screen bitmaps either -- they'll
  129.      be saved in backup files.  Best of all, if you RE-run the 
  130.      "Alien97 Logo Install", your original splash screens will be
  131.      quickly restored.  Now that's what I call convenience!

  134.      read the "Alien97 Troubleshooting.txt" text file.

  138.      4) Removal
  139.  
  140.      As stated above, both the screen saver and logo screens can be
  141.      removed by RE-running their respective installation batch files.
  142.  
  143.      To totally remove Alien97 from your machine, simply go into the
  144.      installation folder and delete all the component files; this 
  145.      shouldn't be difficult since all the files begin with the label
  146.      "Alien97".

  152.      Many of the elements (ie. sounds, cursors, icons, etc.) of 
  153.      Alien97 were modified from existing sources found publicly on 
  154.      the World-Wide Web.
